Game
Watercolor Cross
Watercolor Cross Supplies:
Light colored construction paper (1 piece per child), watercolor paints or crayons (2–3 sets per group), watercolor paint brushes (1 per child), masking tape (1 roll per group)
Directions: Give each child a blank piece of paper. Help each child tear off two pieces of tape, one slightly longer than the other, and place them on their paper in the shape of a cross. Next, allow the children to paint a picture of the Easter story or simply create a rainbow of colors on their paper. When finished, help them remove the tape to reveal a cross in the middle of their painting.
Say: In today’s true Bible story, we learned how Jesus died on a cross. But did He stay dead? (Children respond.) No way! Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus died and now He is alive! If we love and follow Jesus, we can live with Him forever in Heaven.
Question: It was sad when Jesus died on the cross, but how does it make you feel to know that He is alive now? Why is it such good news that He is alive?

Matthew 26:47-27:66
1 Peter 2:21-25
Jesus underwent indescribable suffering for us. He went through an illegal trial by night. He endured the crown of thorns, a horrible beating, the weight of the heavy crossbeam, and the nails in his hands and feet. This is what our Savior went through for us. He died the death we deserved to die so we don’t have to. He suffered for us – and sometimes following Him means we suffer too.

Luke 15:11-32 Last week we looked at the first two parables in a three-part series. In the first parable, a shepherd leaves 99 sheep in search of one. In the second, a woman sets aside 9 coins in search of one. This one rounds out the series. It’s more intimate. A man has two sons – and one runs away. The father never fails to love his son. He waits and hopes and prays that his son will come home. When his son finally returns, his father doesn’t condemn or admonish his wayward son. He throws him a party. He celebrates his return. That’s what Jesus does when we turn back to Him.

Luke 15:1-10 The parable of the lost sheep and the lost coin are more about lost people than sheep and coins. People are sinners and we are going to make mistakes. What we do when we make those mistakes makes all the difference. God calls us to repent or admit our sins to him so we do not hide them. But sometimes, we make choices that cause us to want to hide and that causes us to loose our way and stop talking to Jesus. God never gives up on you and he always seeks for you to be truthful with him and come back to him. He knocks and wants you to open the door. Anytime you repent and admit your sins and want to follow Jesus there is joy in the presence of the angles and all the Heavens rejoice!

Luke 12:13-21 The Rich Fool rooted his comfort and security in his fortune. He had plenty of crops, in fact, too much. He had to find a way to store all the crops. So he decided to pull down his barns and make bigger barns to store his crops. This way he would be able to keep them for many years and not worry. But then he died – and guess how much of his fortune he took with him? None of it. Jesus isn’t against possessions. It’s just that our possessions are temporary. We leave them behind. They hold no eternal value. That’s what God wants us to treasure our relationship with Him above all else. It’s the only thing that lasts.

Luke 10:25-37 The parable of the Good Samaritan is probably the best known of all of Jesus’ parables. Even those that don’t know Jesus will refer to compassionate people as “a Good Samaritan.” But this story is far more incredible than we might realize. See, in the parable, a Jewish man was beaten by robbers and left for dead. Two other Jewish men – both of which held a religious office – passed him by. But a Samaritan – an outcast in the Jewish mind – stopped and cared for him. Jesus calls us to extend compassion to all that need it – even if they look differently, speak differently, act differently, or even believe differently.

Bring Jesus to their level
Review the Video with the kids: We need to listen to the word of God and follow what the Bible says. When we do not understand what God is wanting us to do, ask your parents to help you to understand what the Bible says. Sometimes the Bible reveals our sins and it makes us sad because we did something wrong but Jesus was sent here to pay for our sins. We do not have to live in guilt of those sins. We need to ask for forgiveness and turn away from those sins and try not to do them. We will make mistakes but God knows your heart and he knows you are trying to live more like Jesus.
PRAYER: “Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to show us that we can trust You. Jesus did so many amazing things that only He can do to show us that You sent Him and You have the power to do anything. Bring Jesus to their level
One of the earliest followers of Jesus was a man named Joseph. Only nobody called him that. He was always building others up, so his friends nicknamed him Barnabas – which means “son of encouragement.” Isn’t that a great nickname to have? When others were in need, Barnabas gave generously. When others were struggling, Barnabas jumped in to help. When others were feeling discourages, Barnabas was ready with an encouraging word. The church needed – and still needs – men and women like Barnabas!
God calls us to be encouragers – to build one another up. Who can you encourage this week – through generosity, through help, or just through a kind word? If you can’t think of anyone, ask God to open your eyes to opportunities to carry on Barnabas’ legacy of encouragement.
Prayer: Precious Heavenly Father, We pray that You help us to help others when they are struggling. Help us to be a giving person and to love others always. Help us to be kind to our family as well. Sometimes we do not get along but we know that we need to love them, just like we love other people. Lord, help us with these things in Jesus loving name, AMEN!

Peter swore he would NEVER deny knowing Jesus – even if it cost him his life. But when Jesus was arrested, Peter began to fear that he, too, would be arrested. So, he denied knowing Jesus – just as Jesus predicted he would. Jesus was crucified that day and Peter must have wondered if he’d ever have a chance to repent. But he did! After Jesus was raised from the dead, he and Peter had breakfast on the shore of the Sea of Galilee and Jesus totally forgave Peter and gave him an important role in building His church.

As we wrap up, I would like to leave you with one of the kids’ favorite ‘good-bye’ songs:

Information
Jesus came for a purpose. He was on a mission. And that mission was to rescue us from our sin. That’s what we celebrated last weekend! But He invites us to accept His forgiveness – He doesn’t force us. The good news is that taking Him up on His incredible offer is as simple as ABC.

Bring Jesus to Their Level
Finish up your church at home by recapping the story and practicing the memory again. Then say: “Today, we’ll make a list of the highest things we can think of, like a super-tall tree or a kite or even the stars! It can be anything that is way up high in the sky. (Have each family member list something. You will add something special.)
When you are done making your list, say: “These are some pretty high things! I’m going to add one more thing to our list. Jesus’ love for you and me. Because Jesus’ love is SO high, we can’t even measure it! (Write ‘Jesus’ love’ in the journal.) There. Now we can pray.”
PRAYER: “Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to be our friend forever. Thank You that He came back and will always love us, no matter what. Jesus’ love for us is higher than a (read the list your family made.) That is some BIG love! Thank You again for our friend, Jesus. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
